Having analysed the hundreds of evaluation forms that came in after One World Week 2005, we have put together the Annual Review. Groups all over the UK and beyond put on exciting, innovative, thought-provoking events, the following is just a taster of what went on...
In Neyland, Global Connections organised a series of workshops and cultural events culminating in a parade with dragons, lions and even a phoenix - the wet weather failed to put a damper on this very successful event.
As part of Building Bridges' Primary Schools Project, pupils produced promises which were printed on leaves using various art techniques. The leaves were then used as part of a beautiful display. Even more beautiful was how in making promises, the pupils created positive intentions to build a peaceful community.
In Bolton, the WDM/Oxfam group along with Bolton Fairtrade Town Campaign and Justicia Fairworld Shop held a Fairtrade Fashion Show, which was an 'absolute sell-out'.
Following a week of workshops for children under the banner 'United Cultures of Burton', a fantastic day of celebration, featuring a host of local and international artistes from all the different cultures celebrated during the week’s workshops, was attended by over 1000 people from the whole of the Trent Valley area. The entertainment saw people from all nationalities and races get together and celebrate life with a real zest and passion.
As well as the evaluation forms we also received many promise cards. Paisley Fairtrade Partnership sent in a whole bundle of cards that were filled in at Paisley University, Reid Kerr College and the Piazza Shopping Centre. The promise most frequently made was 'Turn the tap off when I clean my teeth'. A small action, but one that makes a big difference if everyone does it.
