Refugee Week 14 - 20 June 2010 - Different pasts, shared future
Refugee Week is a unique opportunity to discover and celebrate the contributions refugees bring to the UK.
Every year during Refugee Week hundreds of events are organised across the UK. In 2009, there were over 500 small and large events, ranging from big music festivals and art exhibitions to political debates, film screenings, conferences, school activities, sports and community events
The purpose of Refugee Week is to deliver positive educational messages that counter fear, ignorance, and negative stereotypes of refugees, through arts, cultural and educational events that celebrate the contribution of refugees to the UK, and promote understanding about the reasons why people seek sanctuary.
You can take action during Refugee Week by:
- Joining the Simple Acts campaign - do something simple to change perceptions of refugees.
- Organising an event in your local area
- Visiting an event in your area
- Supporting existing activities by volunteering or donating
