Using the outcomes from Rio +20:

Ideas and allies to work withRioconnect banner

in One World Week Events:

The Rio+20 Summit took place in June:  Representatives from around the world gathered in Brazil for this UN Summit on environment and development to plan how to take sustainable development forward.

The outcome of the summit has been met with almost universal disappointment; responses from the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) and other members of the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition can be found on the SCCC website, here.

The disappointing outcome makes it all the more important that we involve people NOW in finding ways to share resources justly with people across the world and ensure that our planet can offer a future to succeeding generations.

OWW Sharing Destiny events can play a part in mobilising ideas and action

In the run up to Rio+20, the Stop Climate Chaos Coalition organised Rio Connection events all over the UK.  It would be great to get these people involved in your OWW events.  SCC’s website has a map locating people who are interested in taking action. You can find out here whether there is anyone you could contact in your local area.  You could also look at the list of SCC members (their logos are on the bottom of SCC’s web pages) and then find out if any have local branches or groups near you.

Local groups of National Organisations worth contacting:

Fairtrade Town groups have been encouraged to get involved with OWW this year. You can consult a list of Fairtrade Town groups and see if there is one near you.

Likewise the World Development Movement is encouraging its local groups to set up events in OWW. Find WDM local groups near you, here.

WDM has a film, Growing Change, about how Venezuelans are developing their food security. WDM may be able to offer speakers for events, too.

What kind of economy do we need: Green or Greedy?  Consider the issues here

WDM has some excellent materials discussing what type of Green Economy would meet the needs of poor people which look at issues of justice as well as environmental sustainability.  A report from the Asian Movementsoffers us a perspective from environmental and anti-poverty groups in Asia of what they would like to see.  You can read it here

Together, we can fulfil our vision of “People working together to build a just, peaceful and sustainable world”.

Call For Climate Action

For the love of each other, this spring, we are standing with over 100 organisations to call for climate action for the sake of all the things that matter most.

For the love of the food on our plates. For the love of our global neighbours. For the Love of Somerset, the Arctic and the Great Barrier Reef. For the love of country walks and Britain's beautiful seasons.

For the love of all the things we care about, we're taking climate change seriously. And we're not alone.

It’s time to stand up, for the love of each other, and demand action.

Will you share what you love? (www.fortheloveof.org.uk)
