OWW Newsletter November 2015

Thank you for a great week of celebration!

Now your evaluations will help us build on the hope we have felt

THE WEEK is over for another year but the action can never end if our one world is to see the hope we long for. So THANK YOU for your support and hard work on behalf of the One World Week theme, Hope in Action, but the week can just be the beginning of something much bigger!

If you didn’t plan an event in October you can still pick up the theme at another time of the year OR have your own One World Week in a different month. Yes, you could celebrate seven days of HOPE IN ACTION in your community.

What you have done as supporters, volunteers and Trustees so far this year — and through the years before — not only helps give our communities a bit of hope but has also filled us with hope that One World Week has an important role to play into the future.

This month we say a big thank you but also have a few reminders for you:

  • Firstly, we need organiser’s evaluation forms please. This is for the organisers to complete and can be collated from the participants feedback if you have any or just from personal observation. More information and the forms can be downloaded for completion here. These forms are so important because they will help us submit applications for funding so OWW can continue into the future so please return them by December 7th.

  • Secondly, don’t forget to look at the website: www.oneworldweek.org and our Facebook page. That’s where you can catch up with what happened during One World Week, see what is planned for the future and continue to access some great resources and see how our partners’ campaigns follow up our theme. It might inspire you to take more action with them.

  • More Volunteers are needed to help the OWW ‘task force’ so if you think you can help you can find more here.

  • We have to use the word ‘need’ a lot and the same applies to money! If you can donate a portion from the proceeds of your event or as an individual then please go to the ‘Donate’ section of the OWW website for how to do this online or by post.

Help us make it happen

We have a fantastic team of volunteers without whom One World Week would not happen, but we need more . The work continues through the year and if you would like to help please let me know richard@oneworldweek.org so we can find a job for your particular gifts. For example, we shall need help with collating evaluation forms immediately and want to develop our publicity and social media techniques ready for next year, which means starting now! So please, if you can help, don't wait too long.

Although people make it happen, money helps as well and if you haven’t considered contributing to our work please give it a thought. A donation from the proceeds of your organisation is very helpful but even better would be a direct debit so we can plan for the future knowing what income we can expect.

The week never ends!

If you haven’t planned an event for the Week please consider using the theme and resources at another time of the year. Your action can inspire hope at any time of the year so don’t give up because you don’t think there is time. Starting late is better than never because we can remind ourselves of the amazing action by individuals and groups that continue to bring hope to communities at all times of the year. So keep telling us your plans, sharing your ideas and inspiring us with what you are doing! Don’t stop when the week ends!

If you do plan an event please Submit your event on the calendar, here if you haven’t already done so and people can check to see what is happening in their area. Don’t worry that you have missed October because it would be great to fill the calendar with events through the year.

Recommended resources

There are some amazing resources which will continue to be appropriate through the year: The HOPE IN ACTION worship anthology produced by Wendy Young of Christian Aid is a great resource for churches with material which can be used in other contexts as well. You can download and print a PDF version or a word version which you can then edit to suit your particular circumstances of the 20 page anthology here. Also from Christian Aid is a Children in Church for One World Week resource: http://www.christianaid.org.uk/resources/churches/resources/children-in-church.aspx

Pledges of Hope to Inspire Action to build a more equal and peaceful world is an exciting resource to stimulate discussion and commitment which can be used at events anywhere from round the dinner table with the family to a school classroom or in a place of worship. Please have a look at this resource on our website here and see how many pledges you can commit to.

Thank You

So once again, a big thank you from The One World Week family of supporters, volunteers and Trustees for all the work in preparing for ‘The Week’ and may all your hopes be fulfilled. We must maintain the theme of Hope in Action in the months to come and will also start thinking about October 2016! So if you have a theme in mind please let us know because we (here’s that word again!) NEED your ideas, stories and inspiration.

Thank you.

Richard Becher, National Coordinator,
