BUT COP26 is about to start on 31 October. The action to address climate change and to secure our children’s future is building as the COP starts.

So, right now, we want to draw your attention to UNICEF’s petition to ask the UK Government to put children at the heart of decisions at COP26.

OWW 2021 Poster

Children around the world, along with UNICEF, CERI and YOUNGO, have drafted a declaration for every government to sign. It is the first declaration of its kind, and it calls for decision-makers to commit to developing global principles on child rights and the environment, and to make sure climate policies are inclusive, and child and youth-centred.

As this addresses issues at the heart of our OWW theme for 2021 and, in case you were not already aware of it, we feel it is appropriate to ask you to ACT NOW to sign and share it with all those you have been working with during the year and in OWW. You can read more about it here

The petition is asking the UK Government to sign the Intergovernmental Declaration on Children, Youth and Climate Action. You can find it and sign it here:

PROTECT EVERY CHILD FROM THE CLIMATE CRISIS

If, like us, you have been engaging with local groups, places of worship, schools and your local councils, in relation to the OWW theme, it may seem as though OWW has been going on for many months – all year! We’d love to hear how that has worked for you and whether you plan to continue working with any of these groups in the future. You can get back to us here

Schools will increasingly need resources for teaching about climate change so do share the latest version of our compilation of resources (find them here)

You can keep up to date with actions on the Take Action page of OWW’s website.

One thing is certain: the work to secure all our futures is just beginning.

With all good wishes from:

Ingrid, Jonaid, Sarah and Sue (trustees) and Allison, Aneta and Roger
