Breaking Chains - Making Change

OWW 2014 - 19th to 26th October

Dear OWW Supporter,

We are pleased to attach the latest One World Week leaflet/poster for the 2014 theme: “Living Differently: breaking chains – making change”. Download it and add your own event details on the white space provided for your publicity. We hope you like the new lay-out. If you haven’t already done so, we hope the leaflet inspires you to start planning this year’s events in your locality. Use it also to remind people that so many local events taking place at about the same time reinforce our being in one global family (as Desmond Tutu has suggested). The theme was developed in consultation with our OWW Partners (listed on the leaflet). We have also met with them and identified resources we can all share (keep an eye on our resources pages for these). Now is the time to contact their local representatives and invite them onto your organising committee. They may prove a useful conduit to extra resources and help.

USE THE WEBSITE for further ideas on how to develop the theme. We have recently added some suggestions to the “Doing OWW” page about how different kinds of events could be related to the theme. It is up-dated frequently with links to campaigns and resources from our partner organisations, so do check it regularly in the coming months.

KEEP US INFORMED We often get requests for what is happening in your area, but cannot help if you don’t tell us. So don’t forget to put your own event details up for all to see as soon as possible! And afterwards, PLEASE let us know how it went!!

LOCAL AREA CONTACTS HELP US KNOW WHAT IS BEING PLANNED LOCALLY. Could you get a feel for what is going on in your area? This could be interesting for you and help us spread the word. Get in touch to find out more.

UPDATE You have received this mailing because your e-mail address is on our database. If you didn’t receive a hard copy of our leaflet in the post it is because we do not have your mailing address. Keep us up-to-date with your latest contact details.

RESOURCES Please use the attached Resource Order/Single Donation Form to order your additional leaflets. All we ask is for a contribution towards printing and postage cost of £2 for 10 or £4 for 30 leaflets. There is no charge for bulk mailing over 300 leaflets. Get your hard copies of the acclaimed OWW handbook and OWW interfaith booklet for just £2 each towards postage. They contain many useful hints. You can also see the Handbook on our website.

FUNDING And now a big THANK YOU to those who donate to OWW. Your gifts are our main source of income and pay for essential core work (keeping in touch, commissioning new resources, updating website tools and building valuable partnerships with other organisations).

However, alarm bells are ringing as we can only balance our budget this year by drawing on the last of our reserves. Further shortfalls have arisen as some of our major donors have reduced their contribution, as they are squeezed themselves. So, we are having to look carefully at whether we shall be able to continue to offer OWW into 2015. We are currently pursuing a new funding strategy to share part of the responsibility for funding OWW more widely among our partners. We have had some early success but will need to extend this if we are to continue next year.

In the meantime your donations are vital to see us through this year, including Single Donations, such as after an event or when ordering leaflets or even when downloading resources.

If you do not already do so, please consider donating regularly every month (via the Standing Order Mandate) so OWW can better plan for and act in the future. You can also give any donation via the ‘DONATE’ link on our website. Either way, if you pay tax and can Gift Aid it as well, this helps even more!

OUR BOARD We are delighted to welcome Sebastian who has just joined our Board of Trustees/Advisors, bringing some new perspectives. As a supporter of OWW, you might like to consider joining our Board. No specific qualifications are required, but experience of organising or management at a local or national level would be an asset. Please ask Mina in the office for a Trustee Application Pack.

WE LOOK FORWARD to a fruitful One World Week 2014 of challenging ‘people to work together to build a just, peaceful and sustainable world’.

With best wishes from Mina, Ingrid, Jonaid, Sally, Sarah and Sebastian
